ABOUT US
Legends Events & Media Ltd was formed by Director Robert Cochrane during 2009 by merging the motorcycle event management business British Dirt NZ Ltd with the mainstream business media entity, Robert Cochrane & Associates. Principle Robert has over thirty years of experience in organizing and or promoting motorcycle events, a mix of both modern and classic events ranging from National Speedway & Longtrack events, Road Racing, Sprints, Grass & Dirt Track, Classic Scrambles and Trials, Classic Field Days, National & International Motorcycle Rallies, Commemorative Re-union Dinners, National Motorcycle Shows plus a range of Speedway car events. Robert has also contracted to independent television producer Ian Rawkins of Telesport NZ in setting up funding for motorcycle, speedway and touring car Television sports shows for TV1 and SKY Sport. Robert has been interested in New Zealand motorcycle history since the early 1970s and has amassed a strong understanding of both general history, and social, business and political trends that have shaped our local motorcycle history. He is a very amateur photographer, helped greatly by digital technology. His other interests include early aviation being a member of the NZ Tiger Moth Club, and has a great interest in steam train, tram and riverboat history, especially within New Zealand. Living in Wanganui is a real bonus with the only paddle steamer to be registered in three centuries, the Waimarie, steaming past his home every day as regular as clockwork. With Percy Coleman establishing his Harley Davidson dealership at 115 Guyton Street in Wanganui in 1926, much of the evolution of motorcycle imports to New Zealand evolved in this town through his family companies. Robert’s research on this subject is ongoing. As a media consultant Robert talks with hundreds of business throughout New Zealand each week and has done so for more than a decade, giving him a very good understanding of the New Zealand business marketplace. Robert operates his business as a virtual office from home, calling upon a team of specialists to develop and complete projects, with the majority of the business flow and material working through the internet these days. From a motorcycling perspective Robert owns a 1971 BSA Lightning 650cc for attending classic and BSA rallies, a 1969 Starfire 250cc for local country riding, a Suzuki 125cc scooter for around town errands, a 1971 B25MX scrambler his son races in VMX and classic dirt events plus a Kawasaki KT 250cc trials bike for riding (as a complete novice) in classic/twinshock trials events. Robert is the editor of the NZBSA Club magazine Southern Star and prepares articles for Kiwi Rider, has a blog on the Kiwi Rider website, operates the British Dirt website in New Zealand and covers New Zealand motorcycle events for a number of overseas based global motorcycle magazines. Robert is the President of the Wanganui Classic Motorcycle Club and
secretary of the NZ Classic & Twin shock Trials & Scramble Association.
Robert also writes a regular column on motorcycling in the region for
the ‘Midweek’ newspaper in Wanganui and has feature articles
published in ‘Kiwi Rider’ and ‘Old Bike Australasia.’ |
